A Safe Space For Teens To Develop As Leaders

Prospera Credit Union sponsors 16 youth for YES! Camp

Submitted.  Given the opportunity and encouragement, every teen has the potential to be a leader. BC’s YES! Camp develops that potential by providing supportive mentorship and co-operative leadership programs as well as a safe space for teens to grow and develop into the unique, capable leaders they aspire to be.

For six years, Prospera Credit Union has been providing 16 young members aged 14-18 years with the opportunity to attend YES! Camp on Vancouver Island for a week of experiential learning with peers from communities all across the province.

This year, the youth chosen include: Zoe Paize, Christian Hansen and Emmy Curtis from Abbotsford; Nicholas Rajalingam from Langley; Mackenzie Piercy and Ryley Taggart from Mission; Emilie Wilson, Katharina Grohmann and Emma Bishop from Surrey; Emma Cowley from Chilliwack; Lauryn Fraser from Sardis; Kaeden Van Oort from Agassiz; Kellan Chung and Shaun Rehaume from Kelowna; Katerina Schrank from Penticton; and Vandam Hofer from Vernon.

YES! Camp offers hiking, canoeing, kayaking and campfires along with the chance for youth to experience the power of teamwork, communication, co-operation and trust. All camps take place at Cowichan Lake on Vancouver Island and Prospera’s sponsorship includes all expenses such as food, accommodations and transportation including shuttle service from a variety of locations throughout BC and ferry tickets to and from Vancouver Island.

“Caring about the needs of the community is at the heart of what it means to be a co-operative,” says Shawn Good, President & CEO of Prospera Credit Union. “This is a great opportunity for us to encourage young people to explore how the co-operative principles fit with their own values as well as the kind of world they want to live in. Through our YES! Camp sponsorship, we’re providing a fun and engaging leadership opportunity for local youth.”
