Abbotsford Food Bank Gets A Boost From Walmart Foundation

Submitted. Like many food banks, the Abbotsford Community Services Food Bank is entirely funded by donations which often means it is limited in how many people in need it can help. This generous donation, made by the Walmart Foundation, enables the Food Bank to help even more Abbotsford citizens who are desperately in need of support to avoid hunger and, in some cases, starvation.

This is great news for the Abbotsford community, where more than 3,000 people are provided with emergency food every month.

This contribution is part of an initial $2M donation from Walmart Foundation to Food Banks Canada, which was expanded today by $2.6M. The donation for the Abbotsford Community Services Food Bank will be used specifically for the purchase and installation of a new walk-in freezer and for temporary staffing support.

“This grant has meant a huge improvement for our Food Bank. Not only have we improved the quality of our coolers and freezer, we have doubled our capacity to obtain and store product. We want to express our appreciation for this opportunity. It has improved our operation significantly!” said Dave Murray, Manager, Abbotsford Community Services Food Bank.
