The school district Spaghetti Bridge Contest is a Jr. Canada Skills competition and is organized by the Abbotsford School District’s Career Programs Department. Sponsored by the Abbotsford Old Spaghetti Factory, this annual contest involves teams of 2 to 4 students designing and building a bridge made of spaghetti sticks and glue. Once completed a ‘weigh-off’ is held, where each bridge has weights added and timed for a minute to see if they can withstand the weights. The lightest bridge that withstands the weight test is the overall winner. 13 teams participated, representing 7 middle schools. The Gold Medal winners go on to compete at the Provincial Skills Contest at Tradex on April 9.
