Abbotsford Teen Dies After Being Hit By Car Driven By Off-Duty APD Officer

An Abbotsford teenager who was struck by a car on Friday evening driven by an off-duty Abbotsford Police Officer has died according to the Abbotsford News quoting family and friends of the boy on social media.

UPDATE: 12/27/14 – The Vancouver Sun confirmed the teenager has died through the Independent Investigations Office of BC this morning.

Earlier, the Vancouver Sun reported the accident at Bourquin and Mill Lake Rd.

[excerpt] The 14-year-old male pedestrian was in the intersection of Bourquin Crescent West and Mill Lake Road at about 6:15 p.m. when he was struck, according to Abbotsford police.

The driver of the Mazda 3, an off-duty Abbotsford police member, remained at the scene while the teen was rushed to hospital.

Because the collision involved an officer, the Independent Investigation Office has been called in to conduct an investigation.

“Out thoughts and prayers are with the young man and his family and our member and his,” Abbotsford police said in a media release.
