Submitted. At 08:06 AM. On Wednesday, January 23, 2013, the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) responded to a report of an industrial accident at the new High Street Mall on Mount Lehman Road. A construction worker had been using a scissor lift and was crushed between the scissor lift and an overhead canopy.

On arrival, AFRS crews found that the worker was unconscious and was suffering from head injuries. AFRS fire crews assisted BC Ambulance Paramedics with patient care and were forced to use the “Jaws of Life” in order to extricate the patient from the operator’s bucket of the scissor lift.

The male construction worker was first transported by BCAS to Abbotsford Regional Hospital. At that time, the patient was then air lifted by BCAS HeliJet to the trauma center at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Two AFRS engines and a total of 9 firefighters responded to the incident. As well, APD and WorkSafe B.C. attended the scene. There were no other injuries.
