Aevitas Toxic Waste Plant To Receive Final Reading Feb 4

Submitted. On February 4, 2014 at the 3PM Chilliwack Council Meeting, the rezoning application from Aevitas is scheduled to go before City Council for final reading. The restrictive covenant associated to the rezoning application has been completed, enabling the rezoning to proceed at this time. The final reading is the 5th item on the agenda at that meeting.

The Public Hearing regarding Aevitas’ application to rezone a 1.78ha portion of property from an M4 (Heavy Industrial Zone) to an M6 (Special Industrial Zone) to facilitate the construction of a waste recycling and transfer facility was held on December 3, 2013 and advertised in accordance with legislative requirements.

As part of the legislated process, the opportunity for the public to provide information to Council was at the Public Hearing. At the conclusion of the presentations, Council was satisfied with the land use decision, citing the track record of the applicant, the comprehensive plans submitted, and the safeguards which will be put in place through the restrictive covenant.

If Council approves the item as it appears in the agenda and passes fourth and final reading, the M6 rezoning process will be complete. Aevitas would then work directly with the Ministry of Environment to ensure compliance with Provincial regulations.
