AFRS Responds To Barn Fire

At 21:41 On Sunday, December 29, 2013, the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) responded to a report of a structure fire at 35493 Vye Road.

On arrival, AFRS crews found one 40 x 100 foot barn and one 30 x 50 foot Quonset totally involved with fire and spreading to two other barns. AFRS fire crews had to deal with strong gusting winds spreading the fire into the exposed barns. Fire crews were able to stop the fire from extending to the exposed barns.

Three AFRS career engines and five auxiliary fire halls attended the incident with approximately 45 fire fighters. Fire crews worked throughout the night overhauling the fire scene and extinguishing spot fires. APD and B.C. Ambulance were also on the scene.

The barns were used for a licensed medical grow operation. Both structures and all contents were destroyed in the fire. The total fire loss was estimated at more than $100,000.00. The fire cause is under investigation at this time.
