Submitted. Last night at 6:40 pm, members of the Abbotsford Police Department’s Crime Reduction Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit, Emergency Response Team and K9 Unit observed a 26 year old man from Abbotsford running with a bag in a parking lot in the 32500 block of South Fraser Way. The man was of interest to police because he was previously observed Driving while Prohibited in Abbotsford and Mission, and was involved in a recent Mischief in Maple Ridge. As police converged on the man to arrest him, he sprinted away and jumped into the passenger seat of an occupied BMW. Inside that vehicle he attempted to force the female driver out in order to take her vehicle and escape police. APD members gained control of the suspect inside the car.

A search of the bag the suspect was carrying revealed 3 packages of cocaine. Each of the packages weighs approximately one kilogram. The female driver was examined by BC Ambulance staff. It was determined that she did not suffer any serious injury. Understandably, she was extremely shaken from the incident.

The Abbotsford Police Department will be recommending several charges against the man including Robbery, Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking and Flight from Police. The suspect is considered a Super Prolific Offender based on the fact he has over 30 prior criminal convictions.
