From ARFC. The 2013 ARFC Gobbler Rugby Tournament concluded this past Sunday under sunny skies at Exhibition Park. Eight men’s teams, four women’s teams, and several stragglers from various clubs came to town to compete for cash prizes and the Gobbler trophy. Saturday saw each team play 2 games, with the men playing 15’s and the ladies playing 10 aside rugby. Saturday evening was the Gobbler dance, which was busy and produced some interesting costumes with the theme of ’50 Shades of Gobbler’.

Sunday was the final day of games, which saw some competitive games. On the men’s side, Chuckanut, Bateman Alumni, Prince George, and Yale Alumni moved on to the semi-final with Bateman and Chuckanut duking it out in the final. It was a spirited battle, with Bateman Alumni capturing the title for the 2nd straight year. For the women, the Wild Guns played Abby U-18 in the final with the Wild ladies squeaking out a victory over the young challengers. Chuckanut men took the honour of best social team of the tournament.

The Abbotsford Rugby Club would like to thank all those who made the 2013 Gobbler a success. Thanks to teams and players who attended, thank you to volunteers and organizers, and thanks to all those who came out and supported. We look forward to seeing more teams in attendance for the 2014 event.
