Book Donation Assists Abbotsford Schools

Submitted. A new book that captures the history of dam construction and power generation on two key BC rivers has been donated to all middle and secondary schools in Abbotsford School District. Voices from Two Rivers has been gifted to more than 600 schools in BC by the BC Hydro Power Pioneers.

The dam projects were engineering feats that involved tens of thousands of people. Today the two rivers – the Peace and the Columbia – provide the majority of BC Hydro’s electricity. The book is dedicated by the BC Hydro Power Pioneers to the men and women whose hard work, energy and pride built the dams on the Peace and Columbia.

“It is our hope that Voices from Two Rivers provides students important insights and understanding of this significant era of dam construction in the province along with the impacts on the people and communities involved” notes Lorne Nelson, President of the Power Pioneers, in a letter to school principals and librarians.

There is a series of lesson plans for students in grades 8 through 12 accompanying the book; the lessons use Voices from Two Rivers as a resource.

The books are also being sold via www.powerpioneers.com , with proceeds dedicated to the Power Pioneers’ Miracle Million Campaign for BC Children’s Hospital.
