Brar Family To Support Gill On Mental Health Funding

Independent candidate for Abbotsford West, Moe Gill, will hold a Press Conference on Thursday May 9th at 3:00pm at the main entrance of the Abbotsford Regional Hospital (32900 Marshall Rd, Abbotsford, BC).

In attendance will be the Brar Family.

This week is Mental Health week in British Columbia. Moe Gill will speak to the recent cuts to Mental Health Care Services by the BC Liberal Government. The agenda for the Conference (approx. 30 minutes in length) is as follows:

1. Ellen Boyes – Mrs. Boyes, the former Board Chairman of the Women’s Resource Center will introduce the speakers and give a general summary of the purpose of the Press Conference and the impact of funding to Mental Health Services.

2. Ken Peterson – Mr. Peterson, former Warden of Kent Institution and the BC Penitentiary, will speak on the costs to society with respect to lack of funding and how new funding can be recovered through a decrease in inmate costs.

3. James Breckenridge – Mr. Breckenridge, community advocate, will speak about the numbers of people of with Mental Health challenges that are homeless and the difficulties they have in accessing services. Additionally, Mr. Breckenridge will speak about the costs of providing services in the Emergency Room and how effective Mental Health funding will result in a net cost benefit to taxpayers.

4. Moe Gill – Mr. Gill will speak about how his personal involvement with the Shaminder Brar case has inspired him to further action. Mr. Gill will present a proposal for a re-organization of the delivery of mental health services through the formation of a separate agency (similar to the BC Cancer Agency).
