Cascades Men Surge Ahead

Spring Invitational first-round leaderboard:

The University of the Fraser Valley men’s golf team got off to a great start at their annual Spring Invitational, surging into the lead during Saturday’s opening round.

Playing at their home course, Chilliwack Golf Club, the Cascades combined for a first-round total of 287, two strokes ahead of the UBC Thunderbirds (289) and 21 better than the third-place MacEwan Griffins of Edmonton (309).

Three of the top four in the men’s individual standings are from UFV – Connor MacLellan is tied with UBC’s Scott Secord for first place at one-under 70, and Connor O’Dell and Cody Stewart are tied for third at 71.

In the women’s team competition, MacEwan (178) leads UFV (186) by eight strokes heading into Sunday’s final round. UVic’s Brynn Tomie (75) has a massive 13-stroke lead in the individual standings, with UFV’s Ciara Melus (Ind.) and MacEwan’s Sydney Johnson-Parker her closest pursuers after matching rounds of 88.
