Cascades Plavsic And O’Neill Named To Whitecaps Summer Squad

By David Kent. The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades Colton O’Neill, Abbotsford, BC and Sasa Plavsic, Coquitlam, BC have been named to the 2013 Vancouver Whitecaps PDL summer squad. The PDL Whitecaps start their regular season this Friday (May 10th) against the Kitsap Pumas, at 7pm, at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium.

Plavsic, a four year veteran Cascade midfielder, is playing for his third PDL team. The Cascades leading scorer the past three years with 22 goals, has dressed for the Abbotsford Mariners and the Victoria Highlanders before joining Vancouver. O’Neill, the Cascades 2011-12 Male Rookie of the Year for his stellar play on defense is playing for his second PDL program, he also represented the Abbotsford Mariners before moving downtown to the Whitecaps.

“I am very proud of both Sasa and Colton they will have a great experience under Stuart (Stuart Neely PDL Vancouver head coach) this summer,” commented UFV head coach Alan Errington. “The PDL is a great level of play for CIS student-athletes to improve their skills and be in top physical condition for the fall.”

The PDL is the top developmental men’s league in North America, the 2013 PDL features 65 teams within four conferences throughout the United States and Canada. The PDL season consists of 14 regular season matches for each team, seven home and seven away, and provides elite collegiate players the opportunity to taste a higher level of competition while maintaining their eligibility. In addition to league play, PDL teams compete in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as well as various exhibitions.
