By David Kent. The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team defeated the host Lakeland Rustlers (ACAC) 3-0, to capture the 2013 CCAA National Championship. The title is the school’s first in the program’s history. UFV started playing intercollegiate volleyball in 2004. The set scores in today’s final were 25-12, 25-10 and 25-20.

The Cascades were led by Kayla Bruce, Surrey, BC with 11 kills, Jenna Evans with 3 aces, captain Brittany Stewart, Langley, BC with 11 digs and Krista Hogewoning, Delta, BC and Kierra Noot, Surrey, BC with 2 blocks each.

“I am very happy for the team, they have been great all year. The team works very hard and has been a delight to coach, they should be very proud of their accomplishments this year,” said a very happy head coach, Dennis Bokenfohr.

The team arrives in Abbotsford Airport on West Jet flight number 248 at 4:22pm tomorrow (Sunday, March 10th). Anyone interested in greeting the 2013 CCAA National Women’s Volleyball Champions are welcome to come to the airport.
