City Remembers Mark Taylor, GM Parks, Recreation & Culture

The City of Abbotsford is remembering Parks and Recreation General Manager Mark Taylor, who died last week after a fall into a crevasse while mountain climbing near Lake Louise.

Mark Taylor provided excellent and dynamic leadership and passion in his role as General Manager of Parks, Recreation and Culture for the City of Abbotsford for the past 12 years. His contributions to the community of Abbotsford are many including helping to establish such legacy features as Mill Lake Spray Park, the Discovery Trail, the Reach Gallery & Museum, as well as the new and extremely popular Abbotsford Recreation Centre.

His loss will be greatly felt across our community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Mark’s family in this difficult time.

People wishing to send words of support to Mark Taylor’s family during this difficult time can do so through City Hall via email at communications-info@abbotsford.ca. Cards can be dropped at the Reception desk on the Main Floor of City Hall, 32315 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford, BC.

The family has indicated that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to “Visitor Safety Programs”.

Cheques should be made payable to The Receiver General care of Visitor Safety Program;

Donations will be applied to a fund which provides support for the training of Search and Rescue Technicians. A note should be sent with the purpose of the cheque (eg. For Visitor Safety fund to train and certify workers through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides courses). Please note: This is not a registered charity.
