City Says Website May Have Been Hacked

The City of Abbotsford is warning residents and users of its website that, on July 16, the City became aware unauthorized access may have occurred to the website.

In a posting on the City website officials announced:

Important Security Notice from the City of Abbotsford

>On July 16, 2013, the City of Abbotsford became aware that unauthorized access to data may have occurred through software used to run our online web services. Immediately upon discovering the incident, the City shut down all external access to online services to protect data.

City staff and an independent security consultant have since confirmed that it is unlikely that any personal information was accessed during the breach. No credit card or debit card information was affected and our systems do not contain highly sensitive information such as Social Insurance Number or Driver’s Licence data.

Customers who participate in the Property Tax and Utilties Pre-Payment Plan Program and my city online users have been notified directly.
