Crime: APD And IHIT Investigate Homicide On Cassiar Court -UPDATED

UPDATE. On the evening of Wednesday February 6, 2013 the Abbotsford Police Department attended a residence in the 34800 block of Cassiar Court in Abbotsford to check on the well-being of 40 year old Leanne Friesen. While at the residence Abbotsford Police discovered her body in the garage having suffered fatal gunshot injuries. Based on the circumstances and the information presented to them, the officers on scene arrested her estranged husband, 40 year old Jeffrey Friesen of Abbotsford for murder. On Thursday February 7, 2013, Jeffrey Friesen was formally charged with the 2nd degree murder of his wife.

“Although the Abbotsford Police and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team were able to bring this investigation to a formal charge we recognize the tragedy and loss to this family.” said Corporal Adam MacIntosh of IHIT.

Mr. Friesen remains in custody and will make his first court appearance in Abbotsford Provincial Court on Tuesday February 12, 2013 at 0930 am.

Previously posted. On Wednesday, February 6 at 7:30 pm the Abbotsford Police Department were dispatched to a home in the 34800 block of Cassiar Court. A family member had asked police to check on the wellbeing of a female resident. Attending Patrol Division officers located that 40 year old female deceased inside the residence. She had been the apparent victim of a homicide. A 40 year old male present at the home was taken into custody.

The investigation is in its early stages with APD Major Crime Unit detectives, Forensic Identification Unit officers and members of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team now involved.

This incident represents a tragic loss of life and we wish to extend condolences to friends and family of the victim.
