[excerpt] Finance Minister Mike de Jong said Tuesday B.C. posted a $353 million surplus in its 2013/14 fiscal year, ending March 31, compared to $153 million forecast in its June 2013 budget update.

That’s despite a $511 million drop in government revenues, de Jong said, which the province tried to counter by curtailing spending an additional $561 million.

“We’re back on the right side of the ledger,” de Jong said of the surplus.

De Jong To Release Public Accounts Tuesday
Minister of Finance Michael de Jong will release the Province’s 2013-14 Public Accounts on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.

The annual Public Accounts are the government’s audited financial
statements for the prior fiscal year. The Province’s annual disclosure of
public sector executive compensation will also be released at this time.

The event will include a presentation by the minister, a technical
briefing by ministry staff, and a question-and-answer session with the
minister.
