Discoloured Water Due To Abundance Of Falling Leaves

City of Abbotsford Announcement – The City of Abbotsford and the District of Mission have received several concerns from residents regarding discoloured tap water in the past few days.

The water’s current yellow tinge is a result of excess tannins in the water at Norrish
Creek. Tannins leach out of decaying organic substances, such as leaves, and dissolve
in the water.

Filtration cannot remove the dissolved tannin but the water is safe to drink.

Water samples have been taken at distribution points throughout Abbotsford and
Mission, and test results confirm that the water is safe and of consistent high quality.

City staff perform routine testing to ensure water quality is maintained throughout the
year. Water quality results are regularly posted online at

.
If residents have any concerns about their water service they can contact the
Engineering Department at 604-864-5514.
