Emergency Preparedness Week – Are You Ready?

Submitted. In an emergency situation, having a plan may help reduce the impact on an entire family. Being prepared can benefit everyone in the household. Members of the Abbotsford Emergency Program, Natural Resources Canada and Insurance Bureau of Canada will be hosting information sessions during Emergency Preparedness Week from May 5 to May 9. Emergency Preparedness Week is a national event that reminds Canadians to acknowledge and learn about the hazards unique to their home, work/ school location, and then to Make a Family Emergency Plan.

Sessions:

Emergency Kit Sales (no registration required) May 5 & May 7, from 8:30am – 4:00pm
At: Abbotsford City Hall, foyer

Personal Preparedness Presentation
May 5 & 7, at 12:00pm
At: Abbotsford City Hall, 32315 South Fraser Way

Mt. Baker and the Risks for Abbotsford Presentation by Dr. Melanie Kelman, Volcanologist and John Oakley from Emergency Management BC.
May 6, 7:00pm – 8:30pm
At: Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (City Hall)
Dr. Kelman studies the several hundred potentially active volcanoes in British Columbia and the Yukon. Dr. Kelman is currently completing a Volcanic Hazard Susceptibility Map of Canada, which shows areas of Canada most likely to be affected by volcanic ash that may fall during future eruptions within Canada.
