By Cascades Media. UFV Athletics Director Rocky Olfert announced today that men’s volleyball head coach Greg Russell’s contract will not be renewed for the 2014-15 season.

“I have a lot of respect for Greg and the work that he has accomplished as a player and coach and the overall influence he has had on UFV volleyball,” commented Olfert. “I’d like to thank him for all his work and wish him all the best.”

Russell just finished his ninth season at the head of the Cascades program. In 2008-2009 he coached the team to a PACWEST silver medal finish, and an eventual semi-final exit at CCAA nationals. His teams also picked up silver and bronze medals at the PACWEST level in 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 respectively. Russell is a former member of the men’s senior national volleyball team and competed in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.

UFV will begin the search for a replacement coach immediately, and looks forward to fielding another competitive men’s volleyball team in the 2014-2015 season.
