Field Preparation Days – Parents Needed to Help!

By March 27, 2014Sports, Sports News

From Abbotsford Angels Hardball Association. Abbotsford Minor Baseball need your help. The AAHA is working in partnership with the City of Abbotsford to maintain and improve our current baseball facilities, as well as plan for future changes. As a facet of our partnership, the AAHA asks parents to volunteer for “Field Preparation Days.”

The following message from Ernie Wiens, our Director of Field Maintenance, explains what we do:

Our fields are in need of some maintenance before the season starts. The objective is to provide a safe and fun environment for the players so they can get the most of this season and enjoy playing ball.

This shouldn’t fall on the coaches; we need parents to volunteer as well.

We will focus on the following when repairing the fields:

Build up the low spots

Repair or rebuild the warm up mounds

Find the base peg holes – Grant, McMillian & Berry

Build up the batting cage, to avoid puddles inside the cage.

We will need people to bring, rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows.

We also need to address the way in which we are raking or dragging the infield, to avoid the buildup of the lips along the grass areas.

If you haven’t yet heard from your coach or division coordinator, please ask about the date for your child(ren)’s fields.
