Submitted. “The City of Abbotsford is pleased to be hosting a regionally focused Fraser Valley Economic Summit (FVES) on September 9th at the Abbotsford Centre,” announced Mayor Bruce Banman Friday. The purpose of the summit is to provide an event that focuses on the economic opportunities and challenges unique to small and medium sized businesses in the Fraser Valley.
“We are very excited about hosting this event and about making it a regional event that
will intentionally focus on working together with our neighbouring municipalities,” said
Banman. “The City gladly supports a regional, collaborative approach to this event and
views it as an opportunity to share success across the dotted-lines of the Fraser Valley
on an annual basis.”
Building on the success of the 2012 Abbotsford Economic Symposium, the summit has
been restructured as a regional event drawing various levels of participation from the
Township of Langley, City of Langley, District of Mission and the City of Chilliwack. With
a full agenda, the event will include a networking breakfast and lunch, three keynote
speakers, a series of breakout sessions, and a Mayor’s panel.
Justin P. Goodrich, Chair of the FVES Organizing Committee, says, “It is clear to me
there is a growing desire for our communities to work together, and for Abbotsford to be
intentionally addressing that desire is outstanding. One thing that was very encouraging
was to have the District of Mission immediately come to the table as a Partner City and
to have their Economic Development Officer sit on our organizing committee.”
“We are thrilled to see the support that industry and association representatives have
already demonstrated and we believe that this year’s event will be better than ever”,
says Jake Rudolph, Deputy City Manager.
