Funding provided for Abbotsford Community Services

ABBOTSFORD – Abbotsford Community Services (ACS) is receiving funding for ten different programs from the food bank to services for youth and seniors, thanks to a $193,000 grant from the B.C. Government.

“Isn’t it nice to know that there is a place to turn to for help for you and your family? In Abbotsford, ACS is that place,” says Janna Dieleman, Manager of Donor and Community Relations at ACS. “The gaming grants we receive allows ACS to continue offering many services like medical transportation for seniors, a health clinic specifically for youth meeting their unique and often complex needs, legal advocacy for immigrant farm workers and counselling for families with issues related to their teenaged children. These gaming grants are critical to the continued health and well-being of the community in which we live.”

“ACS provides valuable services to members of our community,” says Abbotsford South MLA Darryl Plecas. “Thanks to this funding, they will be able to stock up the food bank in time for the Christmas season, and continue to provide assistance to our community through their many programs.”

This grant was awarded under the Human and Social Services category of the Community Gaming Grant program which help support the work of local agencies and clubs that deliver important social services to British Columbians facing challenging and difficult situations.

Every year, the Government of British Columbia approves $135 million in community gaming grants distributed among specific sectors, including arts and culture, sport, environment, public safety, human and social services, parent advisory councils and district parent advisory councils.
