FVBN Gives Back To The Food Bank

Submitted. For every new FVBN Membership sold between October 1 to December 1, 2013, 10% will be given to the Abbotsford Food Bank.

Fraser Valley Business Network (FVBN) hosts a different event every Wednesday, providing opportunities for business owners to network, exchange referrals, expand their reach, and enrich the community.

The Abbotsford Food Bank is close to the heart of FVBN founder Jennifer Henczel. Henczel, who was a single mother almost 20 years ago and utilized the Food Bank a couple times, during a difficult period in her life. Now as a successful entrepreneur and marketing expert, she founded the FVBN and volunteers her time towards the operations of the group. As the group continues to grow in popularity, she is determined to give back to the community that gave to her, in her time of need.

“Last year, we were able to raise $110 in a 2 week period. This year, we have extended the fundraising time to run for 2 months, from October 1 to December 1, 2013. We want to raise more this year, and hopefully an extended time will allow us to do that. The members of the group are extraordinarily warm and friendly, and generous with supporting one another. Everyone is excited about supporting the Food Bank.” Henczel.

According to the Abbotsford Food Bank website, they receive no funding from the government, and they operate 100% on donations. They provide emergency food to approximately 3000 people per month, 1200 of whom are children. In 2012, they gave out an estimated 1.7 million dollars of food.

Similarly Fraser Valley Business Network only runs on the membership fees. How are the fees used? The $5 meet-up and membership fees go towards expenses of the Fraser Valley Business Network. For example: domain, web hosting, website, Meetup.com account, Constant Contact email newsletter, Hootsuite, social media marketing, SEO, equipment, printed materials (business cards, handouts, postcards, and banners), bags, draw prizes, promotional activities, administrative costs, and other technical costs.
