Gallery 7 Theatre To Host Special, Actor’s Boot Camp Workshop Series

Gallery 7 Theatre of Abbotsford, BC is thrilled to be hosting The Actor’s Bootcamp, a series of performance-based workshops for emerging and veteran actors, as part of its 25th anniversary, Celebration! season.

“It’s been a while since we’ve offered any workshops here, but with us celebrating our 25th anniversary, I thought it was high time to bring this important educational component of our theatre back,” explains Ken Hildebrandt, Executive/Artistic Director. “This year’s workshop series offer actors the fantastic opportunity to roll up their sleeves and really explore and develop their craft in an intensive, focused way.”

Leading the workshops will be award-winning professional actor, Erla Faye Forsyth. A graduate of Studio 58 in Vancouver, Erla has performed in numerous productions over the years at Pacific Theatre in Vancouver, including The Foreigner and How to Write a New Book for the Bible for which she received Jessie Richardson awards. Other credits include It’s a Wonderful Life for the Arts Club and Since You Left Us for Presentation House Theatre. A proud Abbotsford resident, Erla spends most of her time homemaking for her husband and three teenage daughters.

Participants will be able to register for individual workshops or for the entire series at a discounted rate. Each workshop will run for three sessions. The schedule is as follows:

  • Voice & Movement: In this workshop, participants will learn about the actor’s two, most important performance tools: voice & body. Explore vocal warm-ups and development exercises, while exploring breath support, diction, projection. Freeing and relaxing the body and using body to communicate character & emotion will also be explored. Runs September 22, 29 & October 6, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
  • Character & Scene Work: Participants will focus on how to develop a strong character: making choices, asking the right questions and finding the answers, text analysis, exercises and techniques to discover and explore character, and projecting character in small and large performance venues. This workshop will use skills learned from the previous workshop as well. Runs November 24, December 1 & 8, 2015, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
  • The Actor’s Tool Box: Like a mechanic or a builder, an actor needs a toolbox filled with necessary tools in order to do their jobs professionally and adequately. This workshop will focus on building foundational acting & performance techniques that every actor should know. The aim is to graft these techniques in to the actor’s professional DNA so they are instinctual. Skills learned in the previous two workshops will be applied and further explored. Runs February 23, March 1 & 8, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.

Each individual three-week workshop costs $95.00/person or all three workshops cost $199.50, a 30% discount. For more information or to register, please call 604-504-5940 or visit the theatre’s website at www.gallery7theatre.com. All workshops will be held at the theatre’s rehearsal hall, #100 – 34595 3rd Avenue, Abbotsford.
