Has Banman Moved From Lame Duck To Albatross?

By May 15, 2014Abnor

By Abnor. It’s been whispered in a number of ears that BC Liberal cabinet minister Rich Coleman (who is responsible for both BC Housing and BC Hydro) is so pissed at Mayor Bruce Banman for thumbing his nose at Coleman’s offer of $15.3 million in long term funding for a low barrier shelter in Abbotsford that, as long as Banman is mayor, Abbotsford is SOL on any help from any part of the provincial government for which Coleman is responsible.

If true this would seem to make Banman more than a lame duck at the end of his one-term disaster as Mayor but an albatross around the City’s neck if there are ever any hopes of having a useful, working relationship with the provincial government.

Interesting insights into both men if true and something voters will have to keep in mind if Banman seeks another disastrous term.

Coleman should be P.O.’d………the City moved forward on this project knowing full well about the C7 zoning and has done nothing to find
land beforehand suitable for low barrier housing.

As for Banman, he was caught between a rock and a hard place, if his red face @ the public hearing was any indication. It was accept the
funding given by BC government and refuse his associates on the
Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce and ADBA, many $$ investors
in the ADBA or vice versa. He decided to support the will of a few
who’s business interests do not include fostering an “inclusive community.”

He will now have to live with that decision….but I am sure the Chamber already has a new candidate lined up to fill his shoes and give control
of City Hall, once again to a select group of developers/businesspeople in this community.

Banman has been bought and paid for by the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce and the small group of “power brokers” who “run” Abbotsford. Nothing can be more obvious!
