Heat Lose Ortio, Smith – Pick Up Trupp

The Abbotsford Heat announced today that the Calgary Flames have recalled goaltender Joni Ortio and defenseman Derek Smith from the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League. In addition, Abbotsford forward Lane MacDermid has been suspended from the club for failing to report following the AHL All-Star break.

Ortio, a native of Turku, Finland, has played 28 games with the Abbotsford Heat this season. He is top five in the AHL in all goaltending categories with a 20-6 record (3rd) for a .714% winning percentage along with a .926% save percentage (4th) and a 2.22 GAA (5th).

The Heat also announced that they have recalled forward Evan Trupp from the Alaska Aces, the Heat’s developmental affiliate in the ECHL.

Trupp, a native of Anchorage, Alaska, has played in seven games with the Heat this season recording four points (1-3-4) and eight penalty minutes. In 41 games with the Aces this season, Trupp has recorded 35 points (11-24-35) and 20 penalty minutes.
