Small Business BC presented the top five finalists for the Best Company Award in 2013. House Calls Health & Wellness was among those honoured.

The award recognizes the business that best demonstrates exceptional leadership as well as a proven track record of growth and profitability.

The Awards Night is on February 28, 2013 at the Pan Pacific Vancouver to find out who will be named the best in BC.

The Small Business BC Successful You Awards (SYA) contest is a province-wide event that recognizes and celebrates the important contributions BC’s entrepreneurs make to their local communities and global economy. The Awards, managed by Small Business BC (SBBC), were free to enter and open to all new and existing small businesses across B.C.

Each of the six award categories were nomination-based with polls collecting public votes for the top nominees. All votes were normalized according to 2011 British Columbia Regional District population figures in order to create equal opportunity for success.

The top ten small businesses, in each category, were asked to complete detailed applications and provide supporting materials. These applications were reviewed by a panel of judges who selected the finalists for each category.

Winners were annopunced at the Successful You Awards Ceremony on February 28, 2013.

House Calls Health & Wellness

House Calls Health & Wellness was started by Melody Leskun in July 2008. Melody is a Licensed Practical Nurse and Certified Foot Care Nurse who spent the large majority of her nursing years working in Geriatric care before following her passions to start House Calls Home Nursing.

Initially House Calls focused mainly on foot care visits, as there was a definite need for this service in the Fraser Valley. As Melody visited seniors in their homes, she began to notice how many seniors were struggling on their own with a variety of health care needs.

Melody then began her pursuit to meet some of these needs. With a staff of Registered Care Aides, Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses as well as housekeepers and homemakers, House Calls Nursing has grown to provide many necessary services. These services include; personal care (bathing, hygiene, toileting, dental care, hair washing and grooming), household management (housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, laundry), Companionship (doctor’s appointments, visitation, appointment/outing escorts), and Nursing visits to perform assessments, monitor vital signs, provide diabetic care, wound care and medication assistance.

The goal of House Calls Nursing is to meet any and all health and home care needs to seniors who wish to maintain their independence living in their own homes. House Calls Home Nursing services the Fraser Valley from Chilliwack to Surrey, providing a wide range of home care services to individuals who value their independence and wish to be cared for at home.
