Jason Brown Is BC’s 2014 Photographer Of The Year

Submitted. The 2014 Provincial Image Salon of the Professional Photographers of Canada – British Columbia (PPOC-BC) was exhibited at the Roundhouse in Vancouver, BC in September this year.

Jason Brown, professional photographer at Revival Arts in Abbotsford, won the prestigious 2014 PPOC-BC Photographer of the Year award. Jason also won Best in Class award and earned a Judges Choice ribbon for his image ‘Sultana of Style’ in the Fashion class, as well as the Jaan de Haas and the Langara Alumni award for his image “Preposterous Erection.” He also earned Honourable Mentions in the Fine Art class for “Preposterous Erection’ and in the Illustration class for ‘Love Potion Number Nine’.

This year, there were 214 images entered and 56% were accepted into the National Image Salon. There were 14 finalists for the Photographer of the Year award. When assessing the submissions, the panel of master judges consider criteria such as impact, creativity, style, composition and technique. Brown said, “There were so many talented photographers who were finalists for the Photographer of the Year award that I was ecstatic to hear that I was chosen as the winner. Being a competing member of the Professional Photographers of Canada helps me to continue raising the bar for image creation – I love the challenge and look forward to what next year will bring.”

Brown is a second generation artist and has been pursuing photography since he bought his first SLR camera from the “Buckpasser” in 1997 and studied commercial photography at Langara College in Vancouver. He has used his photography skills to support many non-profit organizations locally and internationally such as Run for Water, The Crystal Gala, We Day, Matthew’s House and many more. He has photographed celebrities including Nelly Furtado, Jennifer Hudson, Macklemore with Ryan Lewis, Selena Gomez and Nick Jonas for Free the Children’s We Day Events.

Brown has previously won top provincial and national awards for his commercial and portrait photography and holds nine accreditations from the Professional Photographers of Canada.

He regularly does commercial photography for a wide variety of North American companies, portrait photography for families throughout the Lower Mainland.
