By Mike Archer. The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) has suffered a great deal of criticism in these pages for their broken relationship with the city’s homeless population.

It must be said that yesterday’s evacuation of the homeless men and women from the Happy Tree, and the camps which had grown up around it, went off admirably well considering the opportunity for conflict inherent in the situation.

In fact, other than having officers parked a at the end of Gladys Avenue in case they were needed, the APD were not a presence at the evacuation.

Const. Ian MacDonald had assured the media he expected the days events to transpire without incident and he was correct in his assessment.

Kudos to the APD for keeping a potentially ugly situation from getting out of hand.
