Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg for Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is an inspirational international movement that brings together law enforcement personnel in support of Special Olympics. Since 1990, the BC Law Enforcement Torch Run has been instrumental in raising awareness and funds for SOBC athletes and programs.

This year is extraordinary because B.C. is hosting the 2014 Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg leading into the Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games in Vancouver. From July 5 through 8, 25 dedicated law enforcement members and two Special Olympics athletes from across Canada will be weaving their way throughout the Lower Mainland carrying the ‘Flame of Hope’ on their way to the Opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympics Canada Games on July 8 at the University of British Columbia. This will be the first National Games in B.C. since 1990 and the LETR Final Leg team is working hard to raise awareness and funds for the Games running July 8 to 12.

The team will run through 15 communities along the Final Leg route, with more than 400 runners expected to join in the run in their communities. On July 5 the LETR Final Leg team will run through Abbotsford, with members of the Abbotsford Police Department and local Special Olympics athletes joining in.

There are 14 runners from B.C. and one Special Olympics BC athlete on the LETR Final Leg team, including Correctional Officers John Randle, Jeff Buckles, and Nicholas Bruce with the Correctional Service of Canada in the Fraser Valley.
