By Amanda Polak. It is time to shed and hydrate your skin! Now that summertime has come and gone, it is time to trade in your beach bag for fall necessities.

I have a few recipes and home remedies to keep your skin glowing and moisturized through fall to winter and back to summer. Rumor has it, that summer is the most drying to the skin. Believe it or not, it is true. With the sun beaming on your skin when your sun bathing at Cultus Lake, beaches in Vancouver or on any tropical island, when the sun shines on unprotected skin, damage is bound to happen. Your skin may have a great glow to it, but underneath it all, you need to protect, exfoliate and hydrate your skin.

I’ve arrived a little late in writing with the Today’s at the end of summer, so I didn’t get to give my two cents about wearing sunscreen! I will be doing another article about the importance of SPF! Moving forward, here are some great ways to replenish your dry skin.

You can make some great exfoliants right from your kitchen cupboard.

Sweet Sugar Scrub:
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup or honey
2 tablespoons of warm water
(Try a couple drops of your favorite essential oils to add a light scent)

Coffee Crisp (for the caffeine lovers)
1 cup of coffee grounds (preferably new)
1/4 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of olive oil

Mix these inexpensive ingredients together in a container, after you’re in the shower allowing your skin to loosen up, start from arms to legs. This buffs away all the dead skin that clogs the pores that may lead to break outs and ingrown hairs. Now that your skin is refreshed and at a healthy state, follow with your favorite moisturizer or try a body oil. I love Alba’s Organic Kukui Nut Oil, now your skin will love you too.

You can also get the Mittens, or brushes that exfoliate for you at the Dollar Store, Body Shop or any beauty store. Start with once a week with the scrubs, but always moisturize or oil as soon as you get out of the shower. To all waxers, it is important to exfoliate everyday on the areas that are done. The hair comes out easier because there is less dead skin holding the hairs in the follicles, it also prevents hairs getting trapped underneath the skin.

Remember to drink plenty of water. 8 glasses a day!!
