By November 8, 2014Abbotsford News

This morning at 2:59 am, the Abbotsford Police Department received calls reporting a crash between a passenger vehicle and a train in the 33000 block of Townshipline Road.

Upon arrival, emergency crews located the wreckage of a Volkswagon Jetta and a deceased male driver.

A distance to the south of this crash, near Highway 11 and Turner Street, several of the
train cars derailed and collided with BC Hydro power poles. This resulted in a power
outage in parts of east Abbotsford and some areas in the downtown core.

It is expected that the investigation, the restoration of power and the clearing of the
railway tracks will take several hours.

The Abbotsford Police Department is working with the railway, the cargo carrier, BC
Coroners Service, BC Hydro and the BC Safety Authority.
