From CBC. It is with great excitement that Bearcat Athletics welcomes Matt Guynup as the new Head Coach of Men’s Basketball.

Guynup, who is no stranger to the Bearcats program, not only has worked with men’s basketball at Columbia for a number of years, most recently as the squad’s assistant coach the last two seasons, but has gained a great deal of coaching experience at the high school and club levels as well. Guynup is also greatly involved in the sport by way of basketball camps, serving as Director of Basketball Camps in BC with Athletes in Action.

“We are extremely excited to have Matt come on board in this new role” commented Athletic Director Matt Kaminski. “Not only is Matt extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the sport [basketball], but he is passionate about seeing young men become more than simply skilled athletes; he is passionate about discipleship and seeing young men grow in their faith and their character, which is a core value for us here at Columbia.”

When asked, what excites him most about coaching at Columbia, Guynup answered “The people. I have been so challenged by the quality of the coaches, and how they conduct themselves, that I am very excited to be a part of the athletic department at CBC. I have also gotten to work with a number of exceptional young men as they pursue their basketball potential. I have so much respect for the guys that I have coached at CBC, and I’m excited to meet many more, and look forward to helping them become great players, and great men!”

Matt went on to state, “My vision is for a tough, competitive, driven basketball team that gets its grit from a personal confidence in who they are, and the talents they’ve been given. I’m hoping to be able to find a way to help each of the players get the most out of their talents, and that we can fight our way to this team’s first post-season in a number of years.”

The 2013/14 basketball season at Columbia will tip off this fall at Columbia Place.
