Mission Street Legal Drag Racing

By Win Wachsmann. On Saturday July 13. Mission Raceway held their 9th Mopac Performance Street Legal series.

Street Legal cars from across BC congregated for an amazing evening of racing.

The Mopac Auto Supply Street Legal Drag Racing Series, is in it’s 13th successful year of operation at Mission Raceway Park.

Only registered and plated (permits OK) street driven cars, trucks and motorcycles are permitted.

The series serves as the entry level opportunity for first time drag racers and as a safe alternative to illegal street racing.

This is a “run-what-you-brung-for-fun” time only race program. As there are no elimination’s, racers can expect to get anywhere from 4 to 6 passes per evening (depending on total car count). This program is ideal for those enthusiasts who just want to have some fun, set up a “grudge race” with a friend for bragging rights or simply want to find out just how fast their own car really is!

All racing is “heads up” with both cars leaving the starting line simultaneously using a 4/10 s Pro Tree and race for a 1/4 mile or 0.40 Kilometres.

Mission4aAll drivers will receive a Time Slip for each completed run indicating Reaction Time (RT), Quarter Mile Elapsed Time (ET) and Finish Line Speed (MPH).

The four classes of cars:

* Domestic Class – North American vehicles (D.O.T. tire only).
* Sport Compact Class – Small Domestic & Imports (D.O.T. tire or slick).
* Outlaw Class – North American vehicles running race slicks.
* Bike Class – Domestic & Import Motorcycles (D.O.T. tire or slick)

During each event Mission Raceway Tower Staff will track the quickest cars and at the end of the night trophies will be awarded to the top two drivers in each class.

The fastest speed for the night was 175 MPH or 281 Kilometres An Hour in just over 8 seconds for the quarter mile( 0.4 KM)
