Local Elections Legislation Receives Royal Assent

The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development (Ministry) has completed the first phase of Local Government Elections Reform.The Local Elections Campaign Financing Act (LECFA) and the Local Elections Statutes Amendment Act (LESAA) received Royal Assent on May 29, 2014.

The new rule changes in LECFA and LESAA are now in force and will affect candidates, elector organizations and third party advertising sponsors for the November 2014 general local elections.

LESAA also includes transitional rules for any individuals or organizations that acted as campaign organizers under the previous legislation.

The Ministry has produced the What Every Candidate Needs to Know brochure that highlights some of the more significant changes in place for the 2014 general local elections.
