The Pivot Legal Society and the City of Abbotsford will face off in a courtroom in New Westminster on Monday, December 16, over an application by the City to have protesters forcefully removed from Jubilee Park.

The Abbotsford Chapter of the BC/Yukon Drug War Survivors have been occupying a portion of the public park since October 20 in order to bring attention to plight and for safety in numbers after being harassed and assaulted by the City and the Abbotsford Police Department.

The Abbotsford Police Department has admitted to using pepper spray on the homeless, slashing their tents and destroying or confiscating property.

Last summer the City of Abbotsford used chicken feces in order to control the homeless population in the City.

The City is seeking to the protesters barred from all public parks in the City. The Drug War Survivors are seeking protection for a City and its police force which have a track record of abusing and harassing them.

The DWS and Pivot Legal Society also have a series of civil suits against the City and the APD as well as two human right complaints which will be heard starting in the new year.

For those wishing to attend the hearing will be at the New Westminster Supreme Court at 651 Carnarvon Street, New Westminster and is scheduled for 9:45 am.
