Public Hearing On Abby Digs Thursday

The Abbotsford Diginitarian Society‘s plan for a housing camp for the homeless on a property on Valley Road is making its way through the planning process.

As part of that process, a public meeting is being held at the Abbotsford Virtual Campus, 33952 Pine St., on Thursday, Aug. 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

In order to allow housing on the piece of land, Abbotsford’s Official Community Plan (OCP) will require and amendment to allow the property to be used for temporary residential use.

With the upcoming municipal election there is some concern that the required parts of the public process required to have a report to council completed, a public hearing and a council decision.

The August 28 public meeting is one part of that process. Depending when the staff report can be finished the propoisal could be before council at either the October 6 or October 20 councill meeting followed by a public hearing (if council votes to provide the amendment.

Members of the Abbotsford Dignitarian Society will be on hand to answer questions on their proposal.
