Renaissance Project At ASIA Sumas Mountain

How Renaissance art can be recreated was the topic of apresentation to the Board by ASIA Sumas Mountain students and administrators. Working in groups, grade 8 students recently recreated Renaissance paintings as accurately as possible in photographs, using themselves, costumes and props.

The recreated paintings were then photographed by Artist-in-Residence Dale Klippenstein, who had been working with students on perspective and lighting.

The purpose for students was not just to recreate a pretty or interesting image, but to thoroughly understand the artist that painted the image and the significance of the painting in relation to the time period in which it was created.

The process took over two months.
