Sports News: Barry Brust Shuts Out Admirals 2-0 Sunday

By Win Wachsmann. Barry Brust shut out the Milwaukee Admirals 2-0 on Sunday in an American Hockey League game at the AESC in Abbotsford.

This was the Heat’s fourth win in a row and gives them a 5-3 record in their last eight games at home. They are 15-9 in their 24 home games.

Brust stopped 30 shots and picked up his fourth shutout of the season. This was his first win in six starts.

He will be playing in the 2013 AHL All-Star Classic hosted by the Providence Bruins next weekend.

Krys Kolanos opened the scoring at 6:15 of the first period when he swept down the left wing, evaded a defenceman and slid the puck under Admirals goalie Magnus Hellberg. This was Kolanos’ 11th goal of the season. Joe Piskula and Max Reinhart got the assists.

The Admirals had 7 shots in the first period and the Heat had 11.

The Admirals’ Mark Van Guilder was penalized for interference at 3:08.

Brett Carson made it 2-0 for the Heat at 3:15 of the second period, just seven seconds into the power play. Carson took a cross ice pass from Mike Matczak and slapped it past Hellberg from just under the blueline. This was his second goal in two games and was almost identical to his goal on Saturday night. Quintin Laing got the second assist.

The Admirals’ Magnus Hellberg stopped 21 shots as Milwaukee goes to 17-16-6.

The Heat now have 49 points and are tied with the Toronto Marlies in the North Division.

Friday and Saturday night this week the Heat play the Charlotte Checkers prior to the AHL All-Star break.

The Heat will play the Lake Erie Monsters twice in Cleveland on January 31 and February 1. They will play their third game in a row against the Grand Rapids Griffins on February 2.

The Heat will be back in town at the AESC on February 5th and 6th to play two games against the Rochester Americans.
