The Giver Auditions Set for October 27th!
Gallery 7 Theatre will be holding open auditions for the next production in their 25th anniversary Celebration! Season, The Giver, on Tuesday, October 27th at 6:30 PM. The auditions are open to all male and female performers ages 14- 75 and will be held at Gallery 7 Theatre’s rehearsal hall at Huntington Station, #100 – 34595 3rd Ave, Abbotsford.
The Giver is based on the award-winning novel for young adults by Lois Lowry and is adapted for the stage by Eric Coble. In a futuristic, utopian society where there is no war or misery, and each citizen is assigned their role in the community by the elders, young Jonas is surprised to learn that he has been chosen to receive special training from The Giver, the keeper of all memories of true joy and pain.
As Jonas begins his education, the darker hypocrisies of his perfect world are brought to light, and he is faced with a decision that could risk all he has, including his own life. This moving adaption of the award-winning novel for young adults explores what it means to grow up and to be human in an imperfect world.
“The Giver is about diversity verses conformity and about the importance of emotions, memories and individual choice,” explains Ken Hildebrandt, Executive/Artistic Director of Gallery 7 Theatre. “It’s also a compelling coming-of-age story where young Jonas must decide between protecting his own safety and risking everything for the betterment of his community.”
The play will run January 29 & 30 & February 3 – 6, 2016 @ 7:30 PM with discount matinees on January 30 & Feb. 6 at 2:00 PM at the Abbotsford Arts Centre, 2329 Crescent Avenue, Abbotsford. Call-back auditions will be held on October 31 at 10:00 AM and rehearsals will commence the week of November 18. The production will be directed by Gallery 7 Theatre’s Artistic Director, Ken Hildebrandt, who directed last season’s production of Lord of the Flies.
