The Abbotsford Police Department has confirmed the identity of the 34 year old woman who was found on the side of Riverside Road on Monday as Shaminderjeet Kaur Brar. Shaminderjeet Brar was reported missing to the APD on February 12, 2013.
As a result of the continuing Major Crime Unit investigation into the tragic death, it has been determined that Brar was last observed on Saturday, February 16 at around 8:00 pm. That witness sighting, shortens our timeframe for the collision to between 8:00 pm Saturday and the early morning hours of Monday, February 18.
Shaminderjeet Brar was wearing a reddish pink hoodie, blue jeans and white runners. We are attempting to create a timeline of events involving Brar and are appealing to anyone who had contact with her from February 10 onward to call the Abbotsford Police at 604-859-5225. In addition, we continue our request for information regarding any sightings of pedestrians and observations of that area on Riverside Road where Brar was ultimately located. Release of February 20,2013
The Major Crime Unit of the Abbotsford Police Department continues to investigate this tragic death. Since the discovery of the body on Monday, additional evidence has been obtained. The victim has been identified as a 34 year old South Asian woman from Abbotsford. Her body displayed significant injuries to her rear torso area which are consistent with an impact from a motor vehicle.
We have not yet had an opportunity to notify the next of kin and therefore we will not be naming the victim at this time. We offer our sincere condolences to her family and friends.
Given the conditions and temperature of the location in which she was found, it is possible that death could have occurred in the preceding days. For that reason we are appealing to witnesses and area residents for any information concerning the victim or the location in which she was discovered on Riverside Road from Friday, February 15 to Monday, February 18.
Finally, we believe the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision, and possibly the other occupants in it, would have been aware of an impact during that time frame. That collision has resulted in a tragedy that is amplified by the fact that the family must wait for answers. The driver and any passengers must immediately contact the Abbotsford Police to provide their recollection of events for the benefit of all parties involved.
