Truck Driver Runs Through Railway Crossing Arm

By April 9, 2013Community News

On Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 12:00 pm a white commercial truck was in the 34500 block of Vye Road near the location of a railway crossing that is protected by signals and crossing arms. As the vehicle approached the crossing, the warning lights were flashing and the truck was behind two others. Those two vehicles moved through the crossing, and the commercial vehicle driver decided that he would attempt the same despite being farther back and having more advanced warning to stop. The top of his truck then impacted the descending crossing arm and knocked it completely off of its support post. See video . The driver did not remain on scene nor did he report the incident. An Abbotsford Police Department Traffic officer located him later in the day. He was issued a violation ticket for Driving without Due Care and Attention and was held responsible for the damage.

The Abbotsford Police Department has created a short educational video about the road safety at railway crossings.

We encourage you to view and share both of our videos.
