By Cascades Media. The UFV Cascades women’s soccer team scored their way to a couple of victories last weekend, defeating both the Simon Fraser University Clan and UBCO Heat in pre-season exhibition action.

On Friday, the Cascades took on the Clan, scoring two first half goals before holding on for a 2-1 win. Danica Kump scored first on an assist from Carly Neeson, while Danica Snook grabbed the second with help from Karlee Pederson. While UFV controlled the majority of the play and created numerous chances, SFU scored early in the second half to keep the game close until the end.

On Sunday the Cascades faced the Heat, emerging with a 3-1 decision. UFV struck first (Danica Kump) on a beautiful passing play involving a number of players, but the Heat struck back to tie the game up. Karlee Pederson put the Cascades back on top before the half with a rush all the way forward from her left back position and finished with a wicked shot low to the far post. In the second, Cascade Sunayna Samra added the clincher off of a Danika Snook pass.

Three keepers rotated through the Cascades’ net during the game, Kayla Klim, Emily Harold, and Risa Venuto. Each played 30 minutes. The Heat built some quality scoring opportunities in the second half, but were unable to tally against the UFV defense.
