Young Scientists Acknowledged At Regional Science Fair

Submitted. An amazing variety of science-based presentations were on display at last week’s (April 1 – 4) Fraser Valley Regional Science Fair. In total, there were 162 projects representing 24 schools from Abbotsford, Langley, Chilliwack, Maple Ridge and Agassiz. In all, 210 students from all levels of schooling participated in the annual science fair, held at UFV’s Abbotsford campus.

Over 80 awards were handed out at a ceremony on Friday (April 4) afternoon. Top displays were awarded a trip to the Canada-Wide Science Fair, being held May 10-17 this year in Windsor, Ontario. Recipients were:

· Miranda Koetsch, Abbotsford Traditional Secondary, “The Green Sticker”;

· Charanpreet Mahal & Gurmeen Banipal, WJ Mouat, “Sensing Beyond the Way”;

· Daniel Kanis & Jonathan Eenkhoorn, Credo Christian, “Hypertos Operating System”

· Ben Chisholm, Alouette Elementary, “Fuel Cycle of the Future: Part 2”.

Gold, Silver, Bronze and Recognition Awards were handed out to junior, intermediate and senior projects.

Regional Science Fair major sponsors include: Science Fair Foundation-BC, Youth Science Foundation of Canada, the University of the Fraser Valley, and Abbotsford School District, plus numerous award sponsors.
