Chair of the Fraser Valley Regional District and Mayor of Chilliwack Sharon Gaetz is battling with 17 community, environmental and native groups on behalf of a company which was fast-tracked through the City of Chilliwack’s approval process in order to get approval to build a toxic waste site in a swamp beside a nature reserve on the banks of the Fraser River.
She is trying to hold on to her political support from the environmental movement by having everybody watch her fight valiantly with the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) in a battle in which she has no says and no way of winning while hoping people will not notice her support for a toxic waste facility along the Fraser River.
