John Welsh Is 2nd Finalist In #CIVLSSBattle

Submitted. The Aftermath at UFV was entertained for another afternoon of singer-songwriter competitions, as John Welsh narrowly beat out three other performers to become the second finalist in the #CIVLSSBattle on Monday.

It was a tight race between Welsh, My Goal is Telepathy aka Andrew Muller, Corey Primus and Patrick Jolicoeur. Muller, a one-man band hit the high notes as he layered vocals while playing the  guitar over beats. Corey Primus “returned to his roots” with his guitar, harmonica and a melodic performance, singing, “take the load less travelled/meet me in the middle way”.

Patrick Jolicoeur started his set with “Cast it Off”, encouraging his audience not to sweat the small stuff because “that monkey on your back is a weight on your chest”. John Welsh was the last to perform, arriving just in time from a work shift to perform original songs inspired by his travels. There was “Summer Starlight”, which he wrote while homesick in New Zealand, and he closed with a sing-along number composed after a night of drinking with a fiddler in Newfoundland.

Performers who did not advance to the finals in this round still have a chance to make it to the playoff round wildcard voting on Facebook starting March 31 to April 4.

Congratulations to all who competed! #CIVLSSBattle meets again at Aftermath at UFV for the third week of regular battle rounds next Monday, March 31, where we will welcome Ouroborus, Kyle Schick and Alex Rake to the stage. Show starts at 2:00 p.m.
