Submitted. The 2014 National Image Salon of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) was exhibited this week in Winnipeg, Manitoba during the Canadian Imaging Conference. Jason Brown, professional photographer at Revival Arts in Abbotsford, won the prestigious Commercial Photographer of the Year award. Jason also won the Best in Class Illustration award for “Love Potion Number Nine” and Best in Class Fine Art award for “Preposterous Erection.” He earned a Judge’s Choice ribbon for the image “Preposterous Erection” as well.

This year, there were 830 images entered and 56% were accepted into the National Image Salon. When assessing the submissions, the panel of master judges consider criteria such as impact, creativity, style, composition and technique. Brown said, “It truly is an honour to be recognized among the amazing talent of my peers in the Professional Photographers of Canada. Winning the Commercial Photographer of the Year award is a personal affirmation as all of the images this year were from self-directed projects that excite and drive me.”
This competition includes entries from across Canada in 21 different classes and Brown entered the Illustration, Fine Art, Fashion and Architecture classes this year. Chair of the National Exhibition Committee, Kent Wong, said, “We are thrilled to see so many inspiring entries in the competition this year. The salon images clearly demonstrate the exceptional skill an equality that professionals bring to the medium of photography.”

Brown has been pursuing photography since he bought his first SLR camera from the “Buckpasser” in 1997 and studied commercial photography at Langara College in Vancouver. He has used his photography skills to support many non-profit organizations locally and internationally such as Run for Water, The Crystal Gala, We Day, Matthew’s House and many more. He regularly does portrait and commercial photography for a wide range of clients throughout the Lower Mainland.
