Big medal haul for Abbotsford students at Regional Skills
From SD#34. It was one of the best ever results for Abbotsford School District students in the annual Upper Fraser Valley Regional Skills Competition, held Thursday March 5.
Abbotsford students took home a total of 21 medals: 9 Gold; 8 Silver; 5 Bronze. Medals were earned by students from: Abbotsford Senior, Robert Bateman, Rick Hansen, WJ Mouat, and Yale Secondaries.
Nine Abbotsford students will go on to the Provincial Skills competition at Tradex on April 15.
Gold Medal Winners were:
- 2D Animation: Grace Choi and Ryan White – Robert Bateman Secondary
- 3D Animation: Noah Dueck and Kurtis Mar – Robert Bateman Secondary
- Architectural CAD: Alex Hintz – Abbotsford Senior Secondary
- Automotive Service: Chris Letkeman – W.J. Mouat Secondary
- Culinary Arts: Mikayla Wiebe – Yale Secondary
- Electrical Wiring: Nick Huebert – W.J. Mouat Secondary
- Welding: Brad Lewis – Robert Bateman Secondary
As well, over 1,200 middle school students from area districts attended the Discover Skills Event, also held at the UFV Trades & Technology Centre in Chilliwack.
